Pine Lakes International Country Club – MBGA RATING - Course Closed! This, the first golf course built in Myrtle Beach, is known as “The Granddaddy,” and the idea for Sports Illustrated was hatched in the stately colonial-style clubhouse in 1950. This facility, lovingly owned and operated by the Miles family from 1927 until they sold out to a chainsaw happy developer in 2002, personifies “where’s the beef.” It lost its visual appeal with all of the trees gone, and their legendary “excellent service,” had declined dramatically. Its greens were postage stamp size, and the pace of play was extremely slow. The redesigned “Granddaddy” is scheduled to reopen in the Fall of 2008.
