Brick Landing Plantation
–
MBGA RATING
-
This course, nicknamed
“the Brick,” is always one of the top two or three contenders for “The
Worst Golf Course in the Myrtle Beach Area,” and has, since 2000, been a
fixture in the MBGA Basement. We could also list it in our “Golf Jokes”
section, and it would fit perfectly. It was originally designed by the
long forgotten real-estate developer of Brick Landing, and it certainly
reflects his obvious incompetence. At some point, in 2006, the once
iconic golf architect, Dan Maples, got involved, and great things were
anticipated. Maples, whose best days are, sadly, in our opinion, well
into his distant past, has been trying to put his lipstick on this pig,
with less than stellar results. We find it really quite sad to see a
former great reduced to such pedestrian and lackluster labors. They also
tout something about ex-woman pro Amy Alcott, but we don’t know what
that’s all about. This track is located about 15-miles into North
Carolina, and while it plays through what’s left of a beautiful hardwood
forest, along scenic saltwater marshes and by the Intracoastal Waterway,
it also plays between condos and houses, and – get this - has both bent
and Bermuda greens. While we wouldn’t walk across the street to play it,
its definitely not worth subjecting ones self and playing partners to
the ordeal of the long and convoluted drive necessary to get to it. To
add insult to the litany of injuries, the staff there can, at times,
conduct themselves in a manner that one golfer described as, “The
southern ends of northbound horses.”
Warning:
Brick Landing is the home course of a character that operates a discount
golf card operation going by the name of the Grand Strand Golf
Association, which we understand operates by confusing unsuspecting
golfers with us, the Myrtle Beach Golf Association. Apparently, he is
operating without being a legally registered corporation or business
entity in either North or South Carolina. So if you’re unfortunate
enough to be booked on this dog, and can’t get out of it, please don’t
get suckered into buying any discount cards while you’re there thinking
that the card is associated with the Myrtle Beach Golf Association
because - Buyer Beware!
