Historically, this third course at Sea Trail, has been their best one, and thanks to their more durable Champion Dwarf Bermuda greens, it continues to be their best offering. In 2004 it was rated 4-stars by Golf Digest and Best Resort Course of Distinction by Golfweek. In 2005 Golf Digest picked it as one of the 50 Beast Golf Courses in Myrtle Beach, and a Top 100 Golf Course in North Carolina. Over the last couple of years it, like it’s sister courses at Sea Trail, this track took a nose-dive, but thanks to the long-awaited and heavy rainfalls, along with a bit more care from management, all of the Sea Trail courses have improved. It’s built around several man-made lakes ranging in size from 14-20 acres, and every hole there requires a distinctly different approach. It features good roll to the fairways, some hard doglegs, tight landing areas, large bunkers, lots of water, and large undulating greens. The practice facility here leaves much to be desired, and the break after 9 holes requires extra time for driving to and from the clubhouse. While, they certainly have more work to do, it seems they’re headed in the right direction.
Golfer Beware: In late September Sea Trail Golf Resort & Conference Center filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with assets of $34 million dollars (mostly in land) and $22 million in debts. Their lawyer insists that this, and the other two golf courses at Sea Trail, will not be negatively impacted by the bankruptcy, but who believes lawyers? “Forewarned is forearmed,” and everyone should keep that tried and true adage in mind when considering booking any tee times at Sea Trail.
