Currently ranked No. 11 by Golf Magazine on their Best Public Golf Courses in North Carolina roster, when its in shape this is one of the best and most picturesque tracks in the area with seven holes along a mile and a half of the Shallotte River. For quite a while it became quite yo-yo like with huge ups and downs and more downs than ups. It features undulating, tree-lined fairways, marshes, five sets of tees, rolling terrain, 40-foot bluffs and large greens defended by water and strategically placed bunkers. In 2001 Rivers Edge was Rated the 7th “Best New Upscale Golf Course” by Golf Digest as well as being selected by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 20 “Best New Courses that you can play” in the United States. They redid their greens with a salt resistant Seaside Passpallyum grass which was a huge improvement, and really turned it around, but conditions there again quickly deteriorated, but appear to be on the upswing and improving every day.
