This, the fourth course to open at St. James Plantation, is only the 2nd golf course to open in the Myrtle Beach area in the last 5 years. It plays at 7,100 yards from the tips and features grass-faced bunkers and greens of average size and undulations. Like its three sister courses, this one likewise navigates through coastal marine and wildlife habitats, and is challenging while visually impressive. In 2006 it was named the Best New Golf Course in North Carolina, and within a year of its opening it made it into the MBGA Player’s Top 20, which is indeed quite an accomplishment. Their website, however, belongs in the Basement of golf course websites!
IMPORTANT: All four St. James Plantation courses are now semi-private. Some outside play is available, but you must call the St. James courses to ascertain how to book tee times there.
Note: St. James Plantation is located in Southport, NC and has four very good golf courses – including this one - but it really is a pain to get to unless you are staying north of, or close to, the North Carolina/South Carolina Stateline.
