Currently ranked No. 7 on Golf Magazine’s Best Public Golf Courses in North Carolina roster, this is the newest Tom Cate addition to Ocean Ridge Plantation’s “Big Cat” collection of four golf courses (Lion’s Paw, Panther’s Run and Tiger’s Eye). This track covers 220 acres, and has been promoted as being more difficult than Tiger’s Eye, which originally meant that it was more expensive. Once the reality set in that Leopard’s Chase is not superior to Tiger’s Eye their prices became more reasonable. Each hole features four tee boxes, and some tees are elevated. Marsh views, ample vegetation, waste bunkers, slight elevation changes, Bermuda fairways, While an elaborate tiered waterfall complex on No. 18 is this track’s hallmark, their clubhouse is in essence a modular home. There is an ongoing rumor that Ocean Ridge has been having financial issues, which probably accounts for the all too frequent surly attitudes of some staffers there, and the Big Cats’ website is probably the least golfer-friendly website in town.
