Formerly Myrtle West Golf Club, this lackluster course snakes through a Low Country forest with its mixture of hardwoods and southern pines. Black Bear features 23 finger-lakes, which give this course its distinction. With four sets of tees, this course accommodates golfers of all skill levels. Golfers should be aware that virtually all of the courses along the low-lying Highway 9 corridor have problems with “soggy” conditions and “cart paths only” are almost the norm. This course completed redoing their greens with Champion Dwarf Bermuda in 2006, which was a big improvement. They also worked on their and bunkers and addressed their drainage problems in the wettest areas, as well as replacing a bridge, and improving the landscaping and overall appearance.
