A Bridge Too Far: The Barefoot Resort Intracoastal Waterway drawbridge will be closed to all traffic from Monday, November 28th thru Monday, January 16th. This 49-day closing means that golfers will have to travel miles and, at least, an extra 30-45 minutes to get to this, and the other three Barefoot courses, via Highway 90.
While this has historically been the weakest of the four tracks at Barefoot, it still surpassed most of the golf courses in the area, primarily because of the holes along the Intracoastal waterway. Now with with its new Champion Ultra Dwarf greens, it has improved dramatically. This Greg Norman designed course features seven holes along the Waterway with only 60 acres of mowable grass. Norman used the waste areas and the site’s natural vegetation to frame each hole. Norman’s philosophy of bringing “bump and run” shots into play, was not initially very well received here, but as time progressed it became a welcomed addition to the wide range of choices which has made Myrtle Beach golf so popular. In 2008 they completed a beautiful new 27-acre practice and teaching facility serving the Fazio, Love or Norman courses.
