A Bridge Too Far: The Barefoot Resort Intracoastal Waterway drawbridge will be closed to all traffic from Monday, November 28th thru Monday, January 16th. This 49-day closing means that golfers will have to travel miles and, at least, an extra 30-45 minutes to get to this, and the other three Barefoot courses, via Highway 90.
Barefoot Love is currently ranked No. 6 in South Carolina by Golf Magazine and No. 9 in South Carolina on Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play. While all four of the Barefoot courses are some of the best tracks in the area, this one normally comes in a close 2nd behind the Fazio track. They have had some problems with their Bentgrass greens, so it is anticipated that they will redo their greens with Bermuda in the Summer. Carolina native, and 1997 PGA Champion, Davis Love III used all of his Carolina golfing experiences as a background, and then embraced a tradition of Low Country character in his design of this course. The Love course is a traditional layout that incorporates the recreated ruins of 17th Century plantation, similar to ruins found along holes in Scotland and Ireland, along holes 3 through 7. The 7,047-yard course features wide fairways with generous landing areas and greens complexes similar to those found at the 1999 U.S. Open. In 2008 they completed a beautiful new 27-acre practice and teaching facility serving the Fazio, Love and Norman courses.
