A Bridge Too Far: The Barefoot Resort Intracoastal Waterway drawbridge will be closed to all traffic from Monday, November 28th thru Monday, January 16th. This 49-day closing means that golfers will have to travel miles and, at least, an extra 30-45 minutes to get to this, and the other three Barefoot courses, via Highway 90.
Currently ranked No. 15 on Golf Digest’s Best Courses in South Carolina. All four of the Barefoot courses are some of the best tracks in the area, and historically this one is one of the area’s best. A slight annoyance there can sometimes be the traffic noise from the six-lane highway running through the center of the project. They have had some problems in the past with their Bentgrass greens, and apparently those problems are reoccurring. Bordering the natural white sands of the Carolina Bays, this visually stunning Pete Dye design is filled with his infamous pitfalls for wayward shots that have become synonymous with the Dye name. Working with exceptional elevations and an excellent site, this course really lives up to the challenges Old Pete is famous for. While this layout is both beautiful and treacherous, if played from the appropriate set of tees, players of all abilities will be able to easily navigate this Par 72, 7,343-yard layout that encourages walking for guests and members alike. This course is the only one of the four at Barefoot with its own clubhouse and practice facility, and is the site of the annual Hootie & The Blowfish’s Monday After the Master’s celebrity golf event.A
