Wedgefield Plantation

MBGA RATING

 This
tract is the southernmost course in the Myrtle Beach area, and is
definitely off the beaten path. Overlooking the Black River, this is a
wind-swept, old plantation-style layout built on the site of an old rice
plantation. Its scenery of old oaks, magnolias, dogwoods, camellias,
azaleas and wild flowers are its best features. In 1994 Golf Magazine
rated it as one of the "15 Best Courses In South Carolina," but it was
in awful shape for years. The new operators replaced the greens, removed
a lot of the old stumps and debris, and improved the drainage. Sadly,
the improvements didn’t go far enough. |
