Black
Bear Golf Club
-
MBGA RATING -

Formerly
Myrtle West Golf Club, this lackluster course snakes through a Low
Country forest with its mixture of hardwoods and southern pines. Black
Bear features 23 crystal clear finger-lakes, which give this course its
unmistakable distinction. With four sets of tees, this course
accommodates golfers of all skill levels. Golfers should be aware that
virtually all of the courses along the low-lying Highway 9 corridor have
problems with “soggy” conditions and “cart paths only” are almost the
norm. This course completed redoing their greens and bunkers in 2006.
They addressed their drainage problems in the wettest areas, as well as
replacing a bridge, and improving the landscaping and overall
appearance. Currently, however, with their brown teeboxes, fairways and
most greens we think “Brown Bear” is a more fitting moniker.
